The area in which Mérida is located has been inhabited by different cultures. All these cultures have left their marks in the landscape. The Roman marks are the most evident ones. However, currently we can see the legacy of different people that lived during the Prehistory.
Megalithic
structures such as dolmens can be observed near Mérida. Moreover, in the hills
around Mérida there are quartzite formations with caves paintings.
